Michelle Lyon is an undergraduate at California State University, Bakersfield, earning her double major Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Art Education. In 2007 Michelle, along with a group of fellow students, worked with visiting artist Roger Rigorth form Frankfurt, Germany, and the resulting outdoor sculpture, Lilieweiß, still exists today on the CSUB campus. She presided the CSUB Art League for one year before joining the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Before attending CSU Bakersfield, Michelle lived in Oakland, CA, and graduated from Ohlone College in Fremont, CA in 2005, with an Associate of Arts degree in Social Sciences. In 2004 her work was chosen for Ohlone's faculty-juried Student Art Show. Since transfering to Bakersfield in January, 2006, Michelle has shown and sold work in several local exhibits. Her best medium is assemblage sculpture and ceramics, but she does not subscribe exclusively in these media, and is known to work in other 2D and 3D media on occasion, often combining these media in one sculpture.
For this senior exhibition, Michelle has chosen Dr. Rebecca Weller, Art History, as her faculty mentor. While Dr. Weller herself is not a practicing artist, she's very knowledgeable about art theory, her favorite being post-modern and contemporary art. Michelle learned how to best apply her knowledge of psychology, psychobiology, and social and political issues from Dr. Weller, while soliciting advice from other art professors regarding techniques in the studio. This worked out well due to the mixed-media nature of Michelle's assemblage sculptures. A few of those studio professors were Joyce Kohl (ceramics), George Ketterl (painting), Margaret Nowling (design), Michael Heivly (photography), and Sarah Vanderlip (sculpture).
